Arm trotz Arbeit

A collection of my old t-shirts I wore until they (almost) literally fell off my body. I loved them and was proud to carry the message they had to convey to the world. Eventually, they showed signs of wear, holes and stains. The colour and design washed out and faded by the sun. They have had a long life, some of them for almost 20 years. Now that they are buried as garments, they are given a new life in art. Stretched on canvas, primed with acrylics and painted over with thin layers of oil. Now they shine again as if they are new, which they are because this is their second life, as a picture, as a work of art, finally free from function and purpose.

Welcome to the tammorama

For those who don't know me yet :-)

I’m Tammo Rist, an artist whose journey has taken me from the bustling streets of Berlin to the serene landscapes of Oslo. Born in Germany, I found my artistic calling early on, and after completing my education at Universität der Künste Berlin and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, I set my sights on Norway’s capital.

Since 2006, Oslo has been my home, and it’s here that I’ve immersed myself in it’s vibrant art scene, leaving my mark through a diverse range of mediums and techniques. While my roots lie in traditional forms of expression, my practice has evolved over the years to encompass digital media, photography, graphics, light objects, painting, and performance. This diversity reflects my insatiable curiosity and my desire to constantly challenge artistic norms.

At the core of my work is a fascination with deconstructing the image, blurring the lines between different artistic categories to create pieces that defy easy classification. My creations are deeply personal, drawing inspiration from my own experiences and surroundings. Each piece tells a story, capturing moments in time and space that have left a lasting impression on my psyche.

My artistic process is guided by intuition rather than rigid rules or structures. I embrace spontaneity, allowing the eye and the moment to dictate the direction of my work. As a result, many of my pieces arise organically, infused with a sense of raw authenticity that defies perfection.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in numerous national and international exhibitions and projects, garnering acclaim for my innovative approach and thought-provoking concepts. My work challenges viewers to see the world through a different lens, inviting them to explore the complexities of the human experience in all its beauty and imperfection. Join me on this journey of exploration and discovery as we navigate the boundless possibilities of art together.
